From Hype to Practice: LLMs, Agentic AI, and the Future of QA

TL;DR:

At the Dallas QA Meetup co-hosted by BrowserStack and Ideas2IT, discussions around LLMs, hallucinations, trust, and Agentic AI testing revealed a clear shift: QA professionals are ready to explore and adopt AI in their practice.

A Meetup with Energy and Curiosity

Last week, BrowserStack and Ideas2IT came together to host a QA Meetup in Dallas. With 15 attendees, including several external participants, the room buzzed with curiosity, sharp questions, and genuine excitement about where AI fits into software testing.

Karthikeyan Paramasivam, had the chance to deliver a talk on Large Language Models (LLMs) a topic often surrounded by hype and misconceptions. His goal was simple: strip away the jargon and make it approachable.

Jenna Charlton also shared practical insights on how to navigate the 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆.

Breaking Down the Hype

Instead of technical overload, he used everyday examples like a GenAI-powered travel planner. This made it easier to highlight:

  • Where LLMs shine (summarization, reasoning, contextual responses)
  • Where they fall short (hallucinations, lack of domain grounding)
  • How Agentic AI can address these gaps with planning, orchestration, and verifiability

The timing couldn’t be better. Globally, 67% of organizations have already adopted LLMs in some form, and 88% of professionals say LLMs improve the quality of their work. Yet, most are still figuring out how to apply these tools responsibly, making community conversations like this critical.

What Attendees Wanted to Know

The questions that came up reflected a mature curiosity:

  • How do we avoid hallucinations?
  • How do we make LLM outputs more trustworthy?
  • What QA tools can we use for AI-assisted testing?
  • Will Small Language Models (SLMs) help with domain-specific QA?

These concerns mirror what industry studies are showing: 61% of people globally remain wary about trusting AI systems, and more than half of AI users say the data behind these models is unreliable. The conversation in Dallas was about building trust.

The Mindset Shift in QA

The biggest takeaway was the resonance. Many attendees expressed relief after realizing:

  • LLMs aren’t here to replace QA professionals.
  • Instead, they open up new areas of work, especially around testing Agentic AI systems.
  • To succeed, QAs will need to embrace a mind shift: moving from checking functional outputs to validating adaptive, autonomous behaviors.

A recent survey shows that majority of tech workers in the U.S. have already used LLMs in their work. QA is not being left behind, it’s entering a new phase.

Why It Worked

What worked in this session wasn’t the slides or the theory. It was the simplicity of examples. By walking through relatable scenarios and building up to Agentic AI, the conversation stayed grounded while opening doors to new possibilities.

Looking Ahead

The Dallas QA Meetup was a small but powerful gathering. Attendees left with clarity, confidence, and curiosity, exactly the ingredients needed as QA evolves alongside AI.

We’re already excited about what the next meetup will bring.
