Q2 “At a $25M B2B SaaS company with no dedicated data team, what does the first 30 days look like?”
What you’re listening for: Methodology. A real answer has three components and names them without hesitation.
An experienced vendor: Assesses what data exists and whether it supports the proposed use cases. Identifies the one or two internal people who know where the data lives and gets their ground truth. Produces a prioritized use case recommendation with explicit kill gates conditions under which the project should stop.
A misfit vendor: “We begin the discovery phase and work with your team to identify opportunities.” That is not a methodology. It is an invoice. A firm that cannot describe the first 30 days specifically has not done it at this scale.
Q3 “After go-live, who owns it?”
What you’re listening for: Named ownership. A build-and-handoff model cannot answer this specifically because the engagement ends at launch.
An experienced vendor: Names a person, an SLA, and the escalation path. Describes how they handle EHR API updates, model retraining cycles, or integration failures that occur after go-live. Has a commercial model built around post-launch accountability.
A misfit vendor: Treats post-launch support as a separate conversation to be had after you have already committed. This single answer eliminates most of the vendors you are currently evaluating.
