Neel, the head of our Data Science practice, spent a weekend writing code to parse data from PDF files state wise that the Government releases its data in.
The uncovered data points to the fact that access to better menstrual hygiene keeps girls in schools and improves female literacy. It also shows that addressing menstrual hygiene cannot simply stop at the supply of sanitary napkins; it takes a more concerted state-level effort to solve this problem.
Neel wrote a piece about this for nonprofit news outlet The Wire, tracking the absolute improvement in women’s education vis-à-vis access to menstrual hygiene, and he makes a case for increased initiatives at the state level to effectively address this issue.
